The Board of Directors extended this Thursday, April 5, the authorization to use the Federal Police Frequency for another five years. The objective is to avoid any operational difficulties of the public security agency, which operates throughout the national territory. DPF uses the 460 MHz band that covers long-haul areas such as remote areas and borders.
According to the Federal Police, the radio supports numerous day-to-day operations such as dignitary security activities, conducting prisoners, eradicating drug crops, inspecting chemicals, inspecting banks, border surveillance, acting at ports and airports, special tactical groups, bombs and explosives, anti-terrorism and internal administrative activities, among many other tasks of the institution, and would cause enormous damage to activities if the system were to be paralyzed.
The decision to extend was made by the Agency’s advisors considering the importance of radiocommunication systems currently in use by the Federal Police and the impact that the deactivation of such equipment could have on the agency’s operation.
“I am pleased to inform you that at this meeting of the Board of Directors we extended the authorization of the Federal Police Department to use the licensed radio frequencies in the 460 MHz band for a period of 5 years, on a secondary basis. The use of the radio communication system by that body, consisting of hundreds of fixed stations and thousands of mobile stations with coverage across the country and border, is essential to support public security activities, such as fighting corruption and organized crime. ” said counselor Hannibal Diniz. The decision was unanimous.
